We are seeking a Sustainability Partner to join our Support Office team. 

About the Role: 

As the Sustainability Manager at Woodie's, your role is pivotal in advancing our commitment to sustainable retail practices. You will lead our journey towards not only adhering to but also setting new standards in sustainable and ethical retailing. Your work will have a profound impact on our corporate strategy, integrating sustainability into the core of our business model and public image.

  • You are adept at navigating complex commercial and environmental challenges specific to the retail industry, using data-driven insights for strategic decision-making.
  • Your background includes a thorough understanding of sustainability in the retail context, encompassing environmental impact, supply chain ethics, and social responsibility.
  • Experienced in devising and implementing sustainability strategies tailored to the unique dynamics of a multi-site retail organisation, ensuring long-term environmental and corporate alignment.
  • Skilled in partnering with suppliers to foster sustainable sourcing, particularly in retail, promoting ethical product development and eco-friendly merchandise.
  • Renowned for relationship-building and influencing skills, you inspire your team with innovative ideas, guiding them towards sustainable retailing practices.
  • You champion new, sustainable methodologies and thinking, encouraging a culture of innovation and ethical practices in retail.
  • Proficient in engaging with various stakeholders, including suppliers, customers, and employees, to build a unified approach towards sustainability.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Sustainability Culture Integration: Embed a strong culture of sustainability within Woodie's, ensuring it is a fundamental aspect of our retail identity and operations.
  • Goal Setting: Establish and track clear, retail-specific sustainability goals, ensuring they are relevant to our business model and customer expectations.
  • Cross-Departmental Collaboration: Work closely with category teams, marketing, store operations, and HR to integrate sustainable practices across all retail functions.
  • Process Innovation for Sustainability: Continually evaluate and improve internal processes, aligning them with best practices in sustainable retail.
  • Policy Management and CSRD Compliance: Oversee the development and adherence to sustainability policies, ensuring compliance with CSRD requirements.
  • Effective Sustainability Communication: Ensure transparent and frequent internal communication to keep colleagues well-informed and engaged, alongside external communication strategies that effectively convey our sustainability journey to our customers and stakeholders.
  • Employee Training Leadership: Initiate and lead comprehensive employee training programs focused on integrating sustainability practices into every aspect of our operations, ensuring all team members are equipped and motivated to contribute to our goals.

 

Desirable Skills: 

  • Environmental Management Systems (EMS) Knowledge: Understanding of EMS such as ISO 14001.
  • Carbon Footprint Reduction: Experience with carbon footprint calculations. Ability to assess and propose strategies to minimize the carbon footprint specific to retail operations.
  • Materiality / CSRD Knowledge: Understanding of CSRD and its associated requirements.
